MILLENNIUM SERIES (c. 1999), BY CAROL COOK
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, ARTSPLOSURE 1999, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, MAY 1999
MIXED MEDIA (ACRYLIC, GESSOES, METALLIC OIL PASTEL) ON MUSEUM BOARD, FRAMED SIZE 10 1/4" BY 10 1/4"

To quote from Carol's info sheet:
In the Millennium Series, letters, numerals, and symbols from various languages and cultures are layered and fragmented to create abstract images with a weathered archaeological feel.

The small square images, each originally one quadrant of a larger abstract painting, are meant to be rotated and grouped horizontally or vertically by the viewer. The end result is to create new and changeable works of various sizes and configurations in a truly interactive manner.

As the above states, one original 28" square work is divided into 4 14" squares, which can be rearranged at will. These three works, however, are themselves quadrants of quadrants... 7" squares made from other 14" squares. I really like the way these works seem to contain pieces of a much larger image. Unlike the normal series, these three are all signed, since they may not have all originated in the same work.
