CLAY JOHANSON AND DALE CHIHULY

A picture of Dale and myself at the grand opening of the Dale Chihuly: Installations show at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design, Charlotte, North Carolina, 22 July 1999. Dale was very approachable and friendly, and even suggested that this photo be re-shot in a portrait orientation, as opposed to the original landscape orientation. It definitely makes for a better picture. (That's not glitter on his shoes... it's paint.)

My invitation to the grand opening of the Dale Chihuly: New Work show at the Jerald Melberg Gallery, Charlotte, North Carolina, 23 July 1999. All of the proceeds from this show are being used to fund the acquisition of a Chihuly work (a Jerusalem cylinder) for the Mint Museum of Craft + Design.

My Chihuly Baskets book...

... and the sketch of a basket set that Dale drew on the cover page, Jerald Melberg Gallery, Charlotte, North Carolina, 23 July 1999. The sketch is signed "for Clay", "Chihuly", and "1999". This was a very cool thing for Dale to do! He also signed a copy of the Donald B. Kuspit Chihuly monograph for me.

A picture of Dale and myself at the grand opening of Dale Chihuly: New Work, Jerald Melberg Gallery, Charlotte, North Carolina, 23 July 1999. Here you see me showing Dale the picture of my first Chihuly basket set (Royal Blue and Red Basket Set with Black Lip Wraps) on my web site, which I keep a copy of stored on my laptop computer. Dale was fascinated by the compact size of my laptop (it's a Sony VAIO Z505-SX), and we had quite a good conversation about what kind of computer he should buy. (By the way, I am wearing one of my "Chihuly" baseball caps.)
