This is a very nice small watercolor work. Watercolor is perhaps one of the most challenging forms of painting, since you cannot undo your mistakes and working the paper too much will turn it muddy. (Other watercolors in my collection are Winter Shadows From The Hilltop and Farm Across The Swale, also by Thomas McNickle; Noon On The Bay, by Sue Lynch; and Rounding The Leeward Mark, by Willard Bond.) The thing I like best about this work is its simplicity... there are not too many details on the ground, just a few trees and a couple of structures in the distance. The bulk of the work is devoted to a bank of clouds that are just sliding on by. It's very calm. Click here to return to the Collection. |
