GUNSHOT TEST (1997), BY THOMAS SAYRE
A BIRTHDAY PRESENT FROM MY MOTHER, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, JULY 2000
WOOD, STRUCK BY GUNFIRE
This work is one of a series of tests performed by Thomas Sayre in preparation for a new series of works that he created during the period 1997-2000. Basically, he subjected a variety of surfaces such as wood panels and steel plates to weapons fire from rifles and shotguns to see how they would react. (I've seen some of the works in this series, and they're kind of cool.)

This is a small square panel of an unknown type of wood. From the pattern of pockmarks on this panel, my guess is that a shotgun was fired at it. This is a pretty interesting way to create art!
