ABSTRACT UMBRIA SERIES (1999), BY BOB RANKIN
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, AUGUST 1999
ACRYLIC ON COMPOSITION BOARD

Bob's excursion to Umbria, in northern Italy, provided him with plenty of new ideas for new works of art. The Abstract Umbria series is one result.

These works are abstract, in that there is quite a bit of room for interpretation as to what they represent. However, they are also representational, in that they are all based on views that actually exist in the real world.

Going down the page, these works are Abstract Umbria 1 and Abstract Umbria 2. Abstract Umbria 1 is definitely some sort of landscape; I'm not sure exactly what Abstract Umbria 2 is supposed to be... I think it might be rooftops in an Italian village.
