DENVER APPROACH SERIES (c. 1997), BY BOB RANKIN
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, 1997?
MIXED MEDIA (ACRYLIC, GEL MEDIA, OILS) ON PAPER

These two works were inspired by the rotary irrigation systems in use in the American Midwest... Bob saw these from his airplane window while preparing to land at Denver International Airport. I've seen these irrigation systems myself, and they're pretty cool... large patches of green with small unplanted spaces in between in the spaces where the irrigation systems can't reach.

Denver Approach 1 is more grey in appearance... Denver Approach 2 is more blue. I really like the architectural effect in these two works... circles and lines and boxes all working together. The round shapes were created by grinding a plastic can into the works while they were drying.

Bob sold me both pieces, since he did not want them separated from each other. I think he made the right call.
